When you’ve practiced law as long as John has, you’ve just about seen and done it all. His early career was guided by a deep desire for justice and was inspired by the courage of clients seeking to vindicate their civil and human rights through legal solutions when necessary, even at great risk to themselves. Even though John’s practice expanded to a broad array of clients and subject matters throughout the years following those early days in the trenches of the civil rights movement, his search for justice and fairness on behalf of his client, whether an individual, small business or large corporation, has always been a driving force for John.

John earned his undergraduate and law degrees from Ole Miss and has authored law review articles published in the University of Mississippi Law Journal. He has served in various leadership positions in Omicron Delta Kappa, Phi Delta Phi, American Board of Trial Advocates, Young Lawyers of Jackson and Mississippi, Mississippi Bar Foundation, National Legal Aid and Defender Association and Mississippi Bar Association sections. Throughout his career, he has coupled his law practice with a strong sense of civic engagement and the betterment of the community in which he lives.

Plain language skills are uncommon among attorneys. But John Maxey has a unique gift for studying empirical facts, filtering them through his vast experience and communicating clearly. His intellect, heart and succinct communication skills have earned him the recognition of 25+ annual listings in “Best Lawyers in America” and decades with an AV rating by Martindale-Hubbell, to name only a few. More important than formal honors and accolades, however, is the fact that John has always had the respect of his peers, even those who litigate on behalf of opposing parties. That respect comes from a knowledge that John will always act ethically, honestly and with great respect for the process of practicing law.

John continues to participate in the representation of numerous clients in administrative and regulatory matters and civil litigation. Although much of his practice is related to the health care industry, John continues to welcome the challenge of representing clients in a wide range of issues.
